s/o Rev. William M Whaley (1788-1880) & Mary Ann (Ogle) Whaley (1793-1880)

Tennessee Land grant made on 27 Mar. 1837, granted to William Whaley and Richard Evans, a sixty acre tract of land on the Middle Fork of the Little Pigeon River above Greenbriar Cove in Sevier Co, Tennessee.

William enlisted 12 Jun 1846, private in Co. A; 2nd Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. The regiment was commanded by Col. Staudifer.

William was discharged in Vera Curze, Mexico on 11 Apr 1847 with chronic pneumonia and was hospitalized there, he was a drummer in Co.A; 2nd Regiment Tennessee Volunteers and served one year in Capt. George W. McCrown's Company commanded by William T. Haskell.

Martha Jane Huskey (1756-1826)
married 1778 North Carolina.
They were the first settlers of Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

William Ogle & Martha Ogle Log Cabin was the first house built in Gatlinburg, Tennessee abt 1802, He return home to South Carolina to gather his family when he took ill and died in 1803. In 1807 Martha returned to Tennessee with her brother Peter Huskey and family. The Ogle Log Cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites since 1986.
