The fifth of six children of J. Dietrich and Sophia Catherine Brand Zahn, Rosa was born on the family farm in Limestone Township, Kankakee Co. IL. She had dreamed as a young girl of becoming a nurse or doctor, according to her cousin, Minerva Himmel.

On 18 Feb 1902 near Roberts, IL she married Edward John Steinberg. Her bridesmaid was sister Dora Roeder who had been married about six months earlier. The sisters had made matching bridal gowns. Rosa and E. J. farmed his very progressive family farm 1 & 1/2 mi SE of Cropsey but located in Sullivant Twp. of Ford Co. IL. They had five children:

In 1916 Rose Ann helped nurse her father in his last months by being driven 3 miles to Sibley with her under two year old daughter Ruth, boarding the train to Gibson (9 miles), changing to a different train line and traveling 14 miles to Roberts. After a week of invalid care, she and baby Ruth would take the return trip to put her own home and family in order again.

Obituary - Sibley Newspaper - dated 1-24-1918

Anna Rose Zahn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Zahn, was born in Kankakee county, March 4, 1879. She was converted during her youth, joined the Evangelical association and later with the United Evangelical church. She remained a member of this church, true to her faith, until the time of her death.

She was united in marriage with Edward J. Steinberg, February 18, 1902. To this union were born five children, Edward, Hazel, Evelyn, Ralph and Ruth, all of whom are left to mourn the loss of their mother. She died at her home January 22, 1918, aged 38 years, 10 months and 18 days.

Her death was the result of surgical shock after undergoing an operation for appendicitis. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss her mother, two brothers, J. C. Zahn, of Roberts, and S. M. Zahn, of Ashland, two sisters, Mrs. Edward Himmel, of Loda, and Mrs. Fred Roeder, of Roberts, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Steinberg was a true and loving wife and mother and was held in high esteem by all her friends and neighbors.

Short services were held at the home at 12:30 p.m. Saturday January 26. From the home the funeral proceeded to the M. E. church at Sibley where Rev. John Hoerner, of Barrington, Ill., preached a touching sermon. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful and the church was crowded with friends. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were the following: Roy Zahn, Chicago; John Wessels, Christ. Koerner, Chas. Steinberg and Miss Lizzie Wessels, Fairbury; Phillip Koerner, Chatsworth; Mrs. Mary Magenheimer and Mrs. George Koerner, Peoria; Frank Koerner, C. Knoll and Mrs. Jess Koerner, El Paso; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Shafer, John Ellinger, Christ. Ellinger, and Will Ellinger, Pontiac; Mrs. L. Biebes, Miss Lucy Koerner and Chas. Koerner, Chenoa.
