Hannah M. Butcher (nee Mason), 72, of Bridgeton died at her home early on Monday morning following a brief illness.

The wife of Harvey T. Butcher, she was born in Bridgeton and had been a lifelong Bridgeton resident. She had lived at her current address for over forty years. Mrs. Butcher was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary Newkirk Mason.

She was a 1943 graduate of Bridgeton High School and also graduated from Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J. Several years ago she worked at the former MC Schrank Company in Bridgeton and later was employed for several years as a secretary at the Bridgeton Junior High School. Her last position was also as a secretary at the Cumberland County Vocational School in Deerfield Township until her retirement in 1987.

Mrs. Butcher was a member of the St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bridgeton and the Women's Missionary League at the church. In addition, she bowled for several years in the Friday Night League at Pike Lanes in Bridgeton.

For over twenty years she had been a summer resident of Strathmere and she enjoyed arts and crafts as a hobby.

In addition to her husband of fifty-two years, she is survived by two daughters, Donna M. Crammer of Cedarville and Diane E. Pettit of Bridgeton, one son, Thomas M. Butcher of Bridgeton, six grandchildren, Rodney, Ryan and Todd Butcher, Amy Fote, Paula DeRosa and Aaron Pettit, three great granddaughters, Hailee Butcher, Nicole Fote and Kaitlin DeRosa, two sisters, Elaine DiPalma of Glassboro and Mary Lou Brown of Williamstown, several nieces, nephews and cousins and two aunts, Hazel Paulding and Mary Newkirk.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 Noon a the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor Dale R. Johnston, of the St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening after 7 o'clock.
