Emma Wise obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, August 1882, (front page of newspaper is missing so date is not marked and page number is uncertain), column 3. Transcribed by Candice Buchanan.

"Emma Wise.

Miss Emma, youngest daughter of Hon. M. R. Wise, died last Tuesday aged nineteen years. She had been an invalid for fifteen years. When she was about five years old she received a fall which injured her spine, making her a cripple for life. She was also of a scrofulous habit which effected her lungs and since last spring she has been confined to her room and bed and suffered, at times, intense agony which she bore with meekness and patience. She was reduced to a mere skeleton.

On account of the absence of Mr. Wise in Colorado, who was informed of the death of his daughter by telegraph and immediately started for home, but did not arrive till Friday, the funeral did not take place until Saturday morning."
