Charles Frederick Bohnke, the son of Carl August and Matilda (Dorow) Bohnke was born June 1, 1898 on a farm northeast of Garner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. December 18, 1927 he married Elsie Johanna Berghoefer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton. They farmed northwest of Ventura all of their lives. After his wifes death in November of 1975, he continued to live on the home farm. In November of 1991, he moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had served as a deacon; a board member of St. John's Parochial School; past president of Lutheran Laymen's League for Iowa District West; a board member of the Ventura Farmer's Elevator and a member of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by five sons, Harold Boehnke and his wife,Doris, of Ventura, Clarence Boehnke and his wife, Phyllis, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Armand Boehnke and his wife, Marjule, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Eldon Boehnke and his wife, Alphia, of Clear Lake and Walter Boehnke and his wife, Betty, of Englewood, Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Louise Boehnke of Ventura; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister Tillie Hinrichs of Ventura and two brothers, Arthur Boehnke of Garner and ArnoldBoehnke and his wife, Alice, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was precdeded in death by wife, Elsie Boehnke; his son, Roland Boehnke; two infant grandchildren; his parents and three brothers, Albert Boehnke, Herman Boehnke, and William G. Boehnke.
