Bill was born February 26, 1937, in Sioux City, IA, to Napolean and Marie (Conner) Bernard. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1955. After graduation he joined the National Guard. On December 3, 1976, he married Janet Atkinson in Honolulu, HI.
Bill was a businessman owning several successful businesses throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoors man, and was a member of the American Legion since 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Hot Springs; children, Kimberly (Duane) Nelson of Dickson, NE; Leilani (Mike) Homelvig of Hot Springs; Bonnie Bernard of Stoughton, MA; Connie Bernard of Honolulu, HI; Steve Beck of Batesland, SD; Jeannie Christensen of Hot Springs; Danielle (Todd) Ennenga of Edmond, OK; Rhonda (Dale) McGaa of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Bernard of Chadron, NE; John (Barb) Bernard of Vermillion, SD; Gerald (Helen) Bernard of Vermillion; Tim (Bonnie) Bernard of Hot Springs; Tom (Barb) Bernard of Chadron; sisters, Mary Lou (Melvin) Olsen of Sioux City, IA; Patricia Olson of Vermillion; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, and two sons.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00, Monday, April 11, 2011, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
