Clyde S. Marchand, 76, of Newell, Pa., died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc., after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Newell, Pa., on Oct. 22, 1922, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Jane Furlong Marchand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret H. (Smalko) Marchand in 1996.

He was a retired employee of the P & L E. Railroad at the Newell yard.

Mr. Marchand was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church, and a member and past Master of F & A M Lodge 252, Fayette City, Pa.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the 99th Inf Bn of the U. S. Army. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 1606 of Newell, Pa.

He is survived by a son, Charles (Chick) and wife, Charla Marchand of Newell, Pa.; two daughters, Bonnie and husband Jerome Boyle of Perryopolis, Pa., and Barbara and husband, Edward Zwolak of North Huntington Township, Pa.; the following grandchildren, Brian and wife, Katie; Michele and Christopher Marchand; and Bradley and Brett Boyle; a sister, Jane Evans of Newell, Pa.; and a brother, Lewis (Rip) and wife, Ethel Marchand of Newell, Pa.
