She was born in Muncie, the daughter of Harry and Lydia (Bailey) Reading. As a young lady she attended the State School in Fort Wayne, IN. While there she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Russell. They were married in 1966 and they lived happily together for 42 years until Robert's death in 2008.
Emma was a wonderful homemaker. She cherished her time with her family, especially her daughter, Jane Jordan (fiance-Michael Clevenger) of Muncie; four grandchildren, Luanna Russell of Muncie, Ashley Dawn Harris of Bedford, IN, Daisy Mae Barnes of Bedford, IN, and Kevin Slaven of Yorktown, In. She also loved and adored her ten great-grandchildren. Her home and table were open to all and many benefitted from her generous spirit, hospitality, and excellent skill in cooking.
Also surviving are her brother, Jack Reading (wife-Becky, deceased) of Fort Wayne, IN; three sisters, Lydia Riggins (husband-Gregg, deceased) of Parker City, Betty Webb (husband-Chuck) of Muncie, and Jane Ann Reading of Gary, IN; her beloved brother-in-law, David Luke Ferrell (wife-Ann, deceased) of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ann Ferrell, and several other brothers and sisters.
She will be remembered in a private family service Tuesday with Chaplain David D. Ferrell presiding. Parson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
