Mary Styron Akers, 89, died December 25, 2007 in Brookfield, WI. Born in Hatteras, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jane Styron and was the widow of Rodney Akers.

She was a retired school teacher, and a member of Daughter's of the American Revolution, Order of Eastern Star, and United Methodist Church of White River Junction, Vermont.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frederick McCarthy, Jr.

Mrs. Akers is survived by a son, Kevin McCarthy of Brookfield, WI; a step son, Rodney Akers, Jr. of Clifton Park, NY; a step daughter, Rebecca Marx of Macungie, PA; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Hatteras United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cory Oliver. Burial will follow in the Rollinson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hatteras United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 310, Hatteras, NC 27943 or to the United Methodist Church of White River Junction, Vermont. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, NC is assisting the family with arrangements.
