Born March 28 1944, in Middle Stewiacke, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Burris) Bates. He was a member of Middle Stewiacke United Church. He was employed with C.E. Fisher transport as a bulk milk truck driver. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Leola (Hutchinson); sons, Brent and wife Anna, Wadena, Sask; Kevin and wife Michelle, Middle Stewiacke; grandsons, Gregory, Garrett, Kraig, and Korey; brothers, Richard, Stewiacke; John and wife Lynn, New Minas; Bruce and wife Laurie, Penticton, B.C.; Gerald and wife Nancy, Onslow; sisters; Shirley Hewey, Winnipeg; Marie Hewey, Anola, M.B.; Madeline Parker, Dartmouth; uncle, Lenwood, the Falls; several neices and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Harry, Charles Jr; a sister in infancy. Visitation will be 7-9pm today and funeral service Sunday at 4pm, both in Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro, Rev. Larry Harrison will officiate, with burial in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Family flowers only
