Born Lewis Morris Sawyer, youngest of twelve offspring to Hiram and Barbara, in Wisconsin; specifically, most likely in Burnett, Dodge County as did most of his siblings during that time. As of the 1870 census, Lewis at age 3 is living in Burnett until he married:
Marie Tietgen(b1876) on Oct 16, 1895 in St. Louis, MO; after which they lived in Bloomington City and Decatur, ILL.

They had three known offspring:

Fred Ardeth Sawyer 1904–1970

Barbara Sawyer 1915–
