John C. (Jack) Esse, age 88, of 409 S. Main St., DeForest, died on Tuesday, April 12, 1988, at a Waunakee nursing home. He was born on September 16, 1899, in the Town of Vienna, Dane County, the son of Erick and Anna (Linde) Esse. He was a 1929 graduate of Luther College, Decorah, Iowa; and retired as the DeForest postmaster after more than 30 years of service. He was a life time member of Christ Lutheran Church, DeForest and the DeForest Lions Club. He is survived by two sisters, Gudrun Kroncke of Arlington, and Ruth Marple of Madison; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tinka Bilsie. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, in Christ Lutheran Church, DeForest, with The Reverend A. Stanley Christiansen officiating. Burial will be in Norway Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schroeder-Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave. on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
