Lila Helen (Komula) Perkins, 92, of Sebeka, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Lakewood Health System in Staples.
She was born April 15, 1917, and was lovingly raised by Robert and Emma (Jarvinen) Komula. She graduated from Sebeka High School with the class of 1935. She married Lawrence (Pal) Perkins on Sept. 30, 1930, and three children were born to this union. They resided in rural Sebeka where she worked at the Sebeka Coop Store. She and Pal owned and operated Perkins General Store in Nimrod where she also served as the postal clerk. She served on District 21-3 Wadena County School Board; she also was the first woman to serve on the Sebeka School Board. After a tragic fire destroyed the store in Nimrod, she and Pal moved to the Wayzata, Minn., area and worked there until retirement when they moved back to her residence in North Germany Township. She was a member of Nimrod Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Nimrod Senior Center, where she was very active and served as president for several years. She also kept busy with her Avon business and she loved to play cards. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Nimrod Lutheran Church with the Rev. Raymond Hendrickson officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Active casketbearers were Gary Wobbe, Samuel Todd, Tyler Perkins, Casey Perkins, Eric Pickar and Jacob Rosonke. Interment is at West Lyons Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka.
Survivors include her children, Sheila (Larry) Wobbe of Sturgeon Lake, Minn., Raymond (Peggy) Perkins of Clear Lake, Minn., Connie (Robert) Pickar of Sebeka; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pal; brother, Raymond; and sister, Lillian.
