John Fallwell was the son of Elisha & Elizabeth Fallwell of Chapel Hill, Marshall County, Tennessee. John first married Mary P. Martin in about 1841 and six children were born to this union. Mary died just a few months before her 30th birthday in 1850.

About eight years later, on April 28, 1858, in Marshall County, Tennessee, John married Charlotte Rebecca Little. Shortly after their marriage, John and his new bride, Charlotte, moved to the Texas town of Washington-on-the-Brazo, the original capital of the Republic of Texas where the Declaration of Independence from Mexico was signed. Shortly, they were settled in Weimer, Colorado County, Texas. Charlotte gave John nine more children and they lived out their lives in Weimer.

John was a man with one good eye and was a private in the Confederate Army during the Civil War under Captain F. M. Burford, Colorado Grays, Reserve Cavalry Co., Colorado County, 22nd Brigade, TST. He enlisted July 13, 1861, at Harvey's Creek, Colorado County, Texas.
