A native of Roanoke Island, Mr. Basnight was the son of the late Benjamin and Maud Twyne Basnight. He was a member of Dilworth Methodist Church in Charlotte and was employed by a Richmond, Va. advertising firm.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Lou Crossland Basnight of Charlotte; a step-daughter, Mrs. Rufus Overcash of Matthews; a step-son, Billy Crossland of the U.S.A.F.; a step-grandchild; one brother, Fred Basnight of Manteo; 3 sisters: Mrs. Lennie Tillett of Wanchese, Mrs. C.W. Johnson of Manteo, and Mrs. Thomas H. Midgett of Manns Harbor; a number of nieces & nephews.
Attending the funeral were Fred Basnight of Manteo and Gilbert R. Tillett of Wanchese.
