Elmer Russell Ritz, 77, of 537 Battle Ave., Winchester, died Sunday in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Ritz was born Sept. 29, 1908, in Buck Valley, Pa., the son of William Daniel and Delilah Jane Beatty Ritz. He was retired in 1978 as senior sanitarian for the Baltimore City Health Department.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Phi Gamma Delta and Chi Beta Phi fraternities, and the state Association of Sanitarians in Maryland. He was a post-graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and did post-graduate work in chemical engineering at John Hopkins in Baltimore.

He married Marie Stoner Griffith May 31, in Hagerstown, Md.

Surviving with his wife are one stepdaughter, Carolyn Griffith Aime of Springfield; one stepson, Walter Griffith of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, one sister, Mabel Gunnells of Hershey, Pa.; and one brother, Harold Ritz of Waynesboro, Pa. One stepson, Lt. Donald Griffith is deceased.
