Roger Bill, 71, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at his home.
Roger was born Feb. 27, 1934, in Naples, a son of Harold and Jenny (Wheaton) Bill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from Aug. 12, 1952, to Aug. 11, 1956. He married Hilda Yohn on Jan. 10, 1958; she survives.
Roger was the owner and operator of Roger Bill's Garage and Towing in Wayland for many years. He retired from A.L. Blades & Sons in Hornell in 1985.
Roger was a former commander of Atlanta American Legion Post #766, a past member of Wayland American Legion Post #402 and Hatch Hose Fire Department in Atlanta/North Cohocton.
Roger was predeceased by a son, Alan Mansfield; brothers Alan Bill and Gordon Bill; and sisters Leta Kern, Marion Walker, Susan Bill, Joan Bill and Jean Witherow. He is survived by his loving wife Hilda; children Dee Dee Merrills of Wayland, Robin Bill (Mike Cunningham) of Canandaigua, Deborah (David) Sick of Lewisville, Texas, and Marie Johnston of Gates; his grandchildren Rachel Sick, Renee (Jim) Bourgoine and Robbie Merrills of Wayland, Nikki Bill of Canandaigua, Craig Sick and Steven (Stacey) Sick of Texas, Jeff Brown and Mark Brown of Rochester, Sean (Jen) Mansfield of Missouri, Chad (Michelle) Mansfield of Illinois and Alyson (Justin) Russell of Florida; nine great-grandchildren and a very special great-granddaughter, Madison Avery Spencer of Wayland; brothers James Bill and Charles (Kathy) Bill of Arkport and Harold (Helen) Bill of Cohocton; sister Ruth (John) Schenk of Naples; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends called Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services with full military honors were held at the conclusion of calling. Burial was in Clearview Cemetery, North Cohocton. Friends and family were invited to attend the reception after the funeral service at the Wayland American Legion, Main Street, Wayland.
