Lester Glen was born as the 5th ( of 8 ) child born to Maude Gertrude ( Tandy ) Coghill and John Elza Coghill. He was born in Chalmers Township, McDonough County, Illinois.

From an early age, Lester was interested in mechanics. He enjoyed tearing apart and then putting items back together again. Thus began his love of Mechanics and this is the career that he chose to spend his life doing.

As a young man, he spent many happy hours driving a stock car on weekends. He started out driving a stock car in conjunction with his brother in law, Albert Black. From there he drove for other sponsers and himself for several years. He also enjoyed going to watch stock car races in his spare time.

He was an Owner of a Tractor Repair Shop in Plymouth, Illinois for many years. In later years, he opened an Automotive Repair Shop behind his home in Colchester and ran this enterprise for many years.

Colchester - Lester G. Coghill, 85, of Colchester, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 at McDonough District Hospital. He was born August 8, 1921 in Colchester, as the 3rd son ( and 5th child ) of John and Maude ( Tandy ) Coghill. He married Cora D. Carpenter on January 19, 1946 in Colchester. She passed away February 2, 1986. He is survived by two sons ; four grandchildren ; two great-grandchildren ; and one sister. Lester was self-employed as an auto mechanic. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Macomb V.F.W. and the Fandon Christian Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents ; three brothers, Cecil, Harold, and Elzie Coghill ; three sisters Ershel Bainter, Agatha Black, and Dorothea Coghill. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Reverends Dean Reeverts and John Sheperd officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Mortuary. Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of services. Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery with Military Services at the graveside by Macomb VFW and the Macomb Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colchester Rescue Squad.
