John 'Elza" Coghill was born on Sept. 27, 1926 as the last of 8 children born to John Elza & Maude Gertrude ( Tandy ) Coghill.

Elza was born in Blandinsville, Illinois.

He was a World War II Army Veteran.

Elza met and then married Donna Humes on March 11, 1951.

To this union were born two Daughters :
Sheila Kay
Sandra Rae

He worked as a factory laborer at Hemp & Company in Macomb, Illinois for several years.

Elza worked as a serviceman for Hunt's Appliance in Colchester, Illinois for 15 years.

He worked as a Real Estate Salesman for Foster Realty in Colchester, Illinois for many years.

Elza also served on the Macomb County Board.

Elza also served as the Chief of Police for Colchester, Illinois for over 20 years.

He was a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church.

Except for the time He spent in World War II, Elza was a Lifetime Member of the Fandon & Colchester Areas.

John Elza Coghill passed away at 9:32 pm on Saturday January 27, 1997 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Donna ; two daughters Sheila McKim & Sandra Duffy ; two grandchildren and one great grandchild ; one brother Lester ; and two sisters Ershel Bainter & Betty Shoopman.

Elza was preceded in death by his parents ; two brothers Harold & Cecil ; and two sisters Agatha Black & Dorthea Coghill

Funeral Services were held at 2 pm on Wednesday January 31, 1997 at the Jones' Mortuary in Colchester, Illinois. Services conducted by the Rev. Ernest Lowderman, with interment of the remains in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.
