Funeral services are pending arrival of relatives for Arthur Houston Stone, 60, who died this morning at 6:30 o'clock at his home in the Whiterock community following a short illness. Rev. Fred Moore and Rev. Herbert Lowe will officiate at the service and burial will take place in the Tidwell Cemetery. The arrangements are being made by the Gray Sorrells Funeral Home.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Stone was born April 11, 1885 and was the son of Andrew Jackson Stone and Margaret Horton Stone. He came to Texas with his parents when he was 3 years of age and located in the Whiterock community where he had lived since that time.
Mr. Stone was operator of a store and also one of the best-known and influential farmers and citizens of the Whiterock community. He had been a member of the Whiterock Baptist Church since 12 years of age. His wife was the former Geneva Shanks, and they were married in 1906 in Whiterock.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Charles Leon Stone of Houston, A. G. Stone of Whiterock; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Clift of Whiterock; his mother, Mrs. A. J. Stone of Whiterock; one brother, Leon Stone of Longview; a grandson Charles Dwain Stone and several nieces and nephews. One child preceded him in death.
