From Heartstrings by Bev Starksen Coco, niece of Aileen Brooks Carpenter:
The eldest daughter, Aileen, married James Carpenter and lived on a farm in Minnesota which James inherited. It is said that at birth my Aunt Aileen weighed 2-1/2 pounds, and was so fragile that she was kept in a shoe box lined with cotton, next to the wood stove. She survived to give birth to 17 (or 13) children, two died as infants, and two were born in Bellingham, after their move west in 1938.
