She attended the University of Michigan where she obtained her bachelor's degree in industrial and operations engineering, graduating cum laude in 1991. Later she worked for the University of California at San Diego Hospital Quality Management Program for four years and was promoted to coordinator. She returned to University of Michigan in 1995 and obtained her master's degree in industrial and operations engineering in 1997. In later years she worked at Intel then Keane Consulting Group where she was a senior consultant, then manager and senior manager at the time of her death.
