HILDA META SOEFJE (1904-1972), was born August 27, 1904 in Gonzales County and was raised on her parents’ farm near Leesville. When she was old enough, she helped with the house work and chores on the farm. She graduated from Leesville School, commuting about four miles by horse and buggy. After high school, she went to State Teachers College and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught at a local rural school for about two years. On December 24, 1923 in Guadalupe County, she married JONATHAN RAMSEY KEITH JR. (1893-1943), born May 9, 1893, and moved to his farm. There she participated in most of the farm work, including raising a big garden and canning and processing most of the meat and vegetables to feed the family she raised. She learned to read music and play the piano in her younger days and continued most of her life. She enjoyed attending neighborhood gatherings and dances. On January 17, 1943 in Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois, Jonathan passed away. On June 14, 1944 in Gonzales County, Hilda married MAY ALBERT ‘BUTCH’ BOND (1893-1971), born February 18, 1893 in Gonzales County. He died April 26, 1971 in Gonzales County and is buried in Belmont Cemetery. After his death, she stayed on the farm until her death on November 28, 1972 in Guadalupe County. Hilda and Jonathan are buried in Leesville Cemetery.
