Son of William and Maude (White) Cox. He married Edith M. Denham on 23 September 1939 in Bowling Greene, Missouri.

A resident of Eldred, Illinois, he is survived by his wife; three daughters: Charlotte Rodgers of Bogata, Tex.. and Joyce Short and Marilyn Tweeters, both of Jacksonville; two sons: Lyndall Cox and Stuart Cox, both of Eldred; 17 grandchildren and 31 g-grandchildren; five sisters: Wanda Ruyle of Kane, Linda Schaake of Jerseyville, the Rev. Eula McKinnon of Murrayville, Clover Miller of Joliet and Frances Akers of Modesto; and five brothers: Lowell Cox of Eldred, Pete Cox of Murrayville, the Rev. Dean Cox of Shipman, Herschel Cox of Jerseyville and the Rev. William Cox of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by one sister: Audrey Platto and a great-granddaughter.
