He attended Stringtown Grade School and was a 1934 graduate of Perrysville High School. For 15 years, Donald was employed in Gary in the restaurant business and at the steel mills factory stores, but most of his years he was self-employed. He had resided on the Townpath Road just east of Perrysville since 1955.
Donald was well known for his work as an artist, craftsman and antique collector. He collected folk art, did woodcarvings and oil paintings, and made furniture collected from old barns and homes. He had a special interest in his ancestry and local history. Donald was a nature lover and enjoyed the environment in which he lived. He had a pleasant sense of humor and a quick wit. He was a member of West Liberty Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his sister, Grace Wilson and sister-in-law Helen Coleman both residing in the Covington area. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie (Charles) Anderson and brothers, Claude (Jessie), Irvin (Mayme), James (Verna), Mont (Faunile), Frank (Helen) and Robert (Ruth). He had 25 nephews and nieces of which 20 still survive.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at West Liberty Church of Christ; Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at the Shelby Funeral Home in Covington; Burial will follow in the West Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery."
