She was the daughter of Thomas J Adams (1832-1891) and Indiana Pogue Adams (1840-1897). Nancy (Annie) was the youngest of their 4 children.
She was married twice:
1) to Francis L. Clayton (ca 1890)
2) to Peete B. Clarke (in 1900)
She used many names during her lifetime.
She was living in Belguim at the start of World War I in 1914. As so many Americans did, she remained there during the war, returning in Nov 1915 to the United States.
Upon returning from Belguim, she worked as part of Herbert Hoover's Commission for Relief in Belgium (CRB) which feed the starving people of Belguim and Northern France.
