Bartleman Rites Friday
George Bartleman, 78, retiring Emmet County farmer, died late yesterday afternoon at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he had been taken by ambulance Aug. 18. His death is attributed to a lingering illness.

Born Feb. 2, 1885 on a farm north of Estherville, he was the son of Ben and Cassie Bartleman, pioneer residents of this area. He received his education in the Emmet County schools.

Mr. Bartleman was married March 14, 1910 to Johanna Anderson at Watertown, S.D. For the first nine years of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bartleman lived at Montevideo, Minn., where Mr. Bartleman was employed by the Milwaukee Railway Co. From Montevideo they moved to Emmet County and farmed in the Estherville area for 45 years. In September, 1961, they retired from the farm and moved to Estherville.

Mr. Bartleman had been a lifelong member of Estherville Lutheran Church and was active in church work as long as his health permitted.

Surviving his death are two sons, Elmo of Estherville and Ray of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Vivian) Hanson of Estherville and Mrs. Steve (Alice) Hall of Albany, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A brother, LeRoy Bartleman of St. James, Minn., also survives.

Mr. Bartleman was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are to be Friday at 1:30 p.m. family service followed by a 2 o'clock service at Estherville Lutheran Church, the Rev. Roy M. Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in East Side cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home from Wednesday evening until Friday at 11 a.m. at which time the body will be taken to the church where friends may call until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 5, 1963)
