Bob served in the US Army as a corporal in WWII and was a life member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 286 and AmVets both of Wabash. He was a member of China-Berma-India Veterans of Marion.

He was a 1942 graduate of Lagro High School was a retired self-employed carpenter.

He is survived by three daughters, Sheila L. (Bernie) Westendorf of LaFontaine, Barbara Jean Conliff of Whitter, North Carolina, and Trina Gail Spence of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons, Russell D. (Judy) Carpenter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Bobby Taylor (Debbie) Carpenter of Largo, Florida; two brothers, Max Carpenter of Summitville, and Raymond Carpenter of Lincolnville; six sisters, Dorothy Barlow of Kokomo, Phyllis Meyers and Doris Forbes both of Wabash, Thelma Johnson of Seattle, Washington, Marilyn Hoy of Roanoke, and Julia Rayboltz of Warsaw; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
