She was born December 23, 1929, at Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Nathan and Eva Della Eshom Anno. She grew up in Wakarusa, Kansas, and attended the Wakarusa schools.
She worked in her father's garage, Anno's Garage, where she pumped gas, changed and repaired tires, when she was young. She was a Homemaker and for a time was a sub mail carrier for the Carbondale Post Office. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Phillip Billard VFW Post No. 1650, Topeka, Kansas. She was a former member of the Town and Country Jill's and the Flower Club, Overbrook, Kansas. Lila was known for her wonderful pies and also enjoyed reading, crocheting, flowers, cats, and antiques, especially glassware.
Lila married Charles R. Shepard, June 16, 1946, at her parent's home at Wakarusa, where they had a home until 1952, when they moved to a farm near Carbondale, Kansas. He preceded her in death November 17, 2009. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Mae Meinert.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Tom) Williamson, Salina, KS, and Karen (Dennis) Long, Carbondale, KS; six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shepard was cremated. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. Inurnment will be in Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale, Kansas.
