IRA HELSEL
Mr. Helsel, 87, of Blue Ridge Haven West Nursing Home, Camp Hill, formerly of Roaring Spring, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1983, at the home.
Mr. Helsel retired as a crane operator from the Samuel Rea Shops, Hollidaysburg, of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1960, after 43 years' service. He was also a barber in East Freedom and Roaring Spring areas for 55 years.
He was born Dec. 10, 1894, at East Freedom RD, the son of Samuel and Barbara (Feather) Helsel, and June 15, 1916, in East Freedom, married E. Blanche Thomas.
Surviving are his wife, four children, Gordon C. of Naples, Fla., Mrs. Sara Piho of East Berlin, Adams County, Herbert L. of Harrisburg, and Mrs. Bernice Shambaugh of Roaring Spring, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters Lydia Helsel of the Morrisons Cove Home, Mrs. Anna Walter of Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Gertrude Detterline of East Freedom RD.
Mr. Helsel was a member of the Foot of Ten Independent Bible Church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring.
HELSEL -- Services for Ira Helsel, formerly of Roaring Spring, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, by the Rev. David Lykens. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Haven West Nursing Home, 770 Poplar Church Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
