Obituary:
Merlin A. Dunwiddie, 86, a resident of Heritage Pointe at Warren, died there at 12:06 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011. Mr. Dunwiddie was a farmer and was employed by the Wells County Co-Op for 18 years. He was also an independent contract driver and worked for Dallas Moser Transport for many years. He attended P.A. Allen High School in Bluffton and served in the U.S. Army in 1945 and 1946. He was a member of the Reiffsburg United Methodist Church. Mr. Dunwiddie was born May 5, 1925, in Wells County, to Benjamin Dunwiddie and Azalia Williams Dunwiddie. He married Phyllis Ann Wamsley April 18,1953, in Warren; she preceded him in death Sept. 18,1974. He married Barbara J. Gentis Oct. 22, 1975, in Wells County; she preceded him in death Oct. 24, 2001. Survivors include three sons, Danial M. (Ann) Dunwiddie of Bluffton, David L. (Cathy) Dunwiddie of Ossian, and Douglas K. (Amy A.) Dunwiddie of Bluffton; two daughters, Donna A. Eisenhut and Diana G. (Stuart) Mutzfeld, both of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Tom A. (Kim) Gentis of Keystone and Tracy E. (Rhonda) Gentis of Warren; three stepdaughters, Debbie E. (Neil) Kemarly of Pioneer, Ohio, Yvette K. (Randy) Runkle of Bluffton, and Bernadine B. (John) Kleinknight of Geneva; and 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving child of Benjamin Dunwiddie. Calling will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Thoma/Rich,Chaney, and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday with Pastor Mike Harris officiating. Burial will be at the Gearnand Cemetery at Bluffton, with military graveside honors performed by members of American Legion Post 111 Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
