MARION - Luther M. Ammons, 54, died about 11 o'clock Monday night in a Baltimore hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Marion Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Paul Batson, assisted by the Rev. Dr. B. S. Allen. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 13, 1904 in Marion County, the son of Walton and the late Julia V. Brown Ammons.
Leaving Marion shortly after graduation from high school, he made his home in Baltimore, Maryland for 21 years. He returned to Marion in 1949 and has since that time been associated with Ammons Furniture Store in Marion and the Midway Motel at Pee Dee.
He was a member of the Marion Baptist Church, serving as a deacon. He was a member of the Marion Lions Club and a member of Trenton Lodge No. 60 A.F.M. and a member of the Marion city council.
Surviving besides his father is his widow, the former Miss Rose Marie Heilman; one daughter, Kay Ammons, a student at Furman University; one son, Richard Ammons, a student at Georgia Tech, Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth A. Price and Mrs. Grace A. Stephenson, both of Marion, and Mrs. Ella Kate Clark of Florence; and three brothers, Lanneau Ammons of Terry Point, Md., Demont Ammons and Arthur Ammons, both of Marion.
The body will remain at Smith Funeral Home in Marion until one hour prior to services.
