MARION - Walton Ammons, 83, died Monday at a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Brothers Funeral Chapel by Rev. Paul O. Batson, Jr., assisted by Rev. B. F. Allen. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Ammons was born in Marion County, spent his entire life here and was a merchant for 45 years, retiring in 1951. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Mr. Ammons was married three times, first to the former Julia Brown, who died in 1938. Of this union survive three sons, Lanneau, Demont and Arthur Ammons, all of Marion; and two daughters, Mrs. R. A. Stephenson of Marion and Mrs. J. Felder Clark of Florence.
His second marriage was to Mrs. Tula McCumber Hyatt Ammons, who died in 1959.
Also surviving are his third wife, Mrs. Sally J. Ammons of Marion; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
