Leland Alfred Smith
(March 27, 1929 - November 3, 2011)

Leland Alfred Smith, 82, has gone to be with his Father in Heaven after living a life full of fun, family and friends.

A Celebration of his life was held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Leland was a husband, father, brother, missionary, teacher, community leader and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Leland was born in Snowflake, Arizona and spent most of his life in his beloved town.

He was born to Louie VanWagoner and Jesse M. Smith on March 27th, 1929. He graduated from Snowflake High School and Brigham Young University (Go Cougars!!) and later attended Northern Arizona University for his Masters Degree. He worked as a Grocery Store Owner and later as a business teacher at Snowflake High School. He served two missions both in Hawaii, many years as an Elders Quorum President and loved his years as a Bishop.

He was married to his sweetheart Marilyn Day for 54 wonderful years. Together they had seven children. Leland would want people to remember him for his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, his friendship and his sense of community.

Leland was preceded in death by his mother, Louie VanWagoner Smith, his father Jesse M. Smith, his step-mother Marvel Bailey Smith; his siblings, Van Smith, Earl Smith, Roy Smith, Peggy Hatch, Donald Smith; and grandson Jacob Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Day Smith; their children Lee Smith (Sheri), Lynn Smith (Sue), Jay Smith (Daneen), Marilee Whipple, Colleen Hodgkinson (Andy), David Smith (Janean), Christine Lyman (Jason) and two daughters-in-law Valerie Smith, and Carrie Smith; 34 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; siblings Lilia Seegmiller, Buck Smith, Anne Klarer, Ruth Hatch and Ronald Smith, and many other relatives, and many fabulous friends.

His family would like to thank all the many wonderful people for all their acts of kindness and friendship.
