Annie Lois Covington Hammond of Marks, 89, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center at Clarksdale of heart failure.
Services were at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at First Baptist Church of Marks with the Revs. Laurie V. Jones and David Meador officiating. Internment was at the Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home of Marks had charge.
Born September 1, 1912, at Zebulon, MS, to Josa Lee Covington and Mary AnnieDee Hughes Covington, Mrs. Hammond attended Marks High School. She was a homemaker and part time librarian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marks. The widow of the late Abner Meek Hammond, Sr., she was preceded in death by two great-grandsons.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Hammond Butler of Clarksdale; a son, Abner Meek Hammond, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters, Imogean Racely of Memphis, and Leah Schooler of Houston, TX; one brother, Leslie Hughes Covington of Wynn, AR; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The family has requested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Marks.
