Son of John Levi and Nancy Hayes Meggs, husband of Eva Lee Lane.


MULLINS - Ernest H. Meggs, 69, died Wednesday morning in a Conway hospital following an illness of two weeks.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from Meares Funeral Chapel. The Rev. W. Fleetwood Baker will officiate, burial will be in Cedardale Cemetery.

Mr. Meggs was a life-long resident of Marion County. He was employed by the Us Post Office Dept. for more than 40 years and was assistant postmaster at the time of his retirement in 1955. Since that time he has been bookkeeper for Nyes Drug Company. He was a member of the Macedonia Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eva Lane Meggs of Mullins; two brothers, Frank L. Meggs of Jacksonville, Fla. and P. J. Stoll Meggs of Dovesville; four sisters, Mrs. Clara Allen and Miss Mamie Meggs, both of Marion, Mrs. A. R. Nicholson of Mullins and Miss Ethel Meggs of Atlanta, Ga.; his son Ernest Lee Meggs presently serving in the US Army at Fort Knox, and 3 grandchildren.
