Edwin Burnham Lilley was born pm 27 Aug 1858, the seventh child and fifth son of James E. Lilley and Elizabeth Jane Grant. He was the fourth Lilley child born after the family moved from Canada to the United States.

Edwin moved with his parents and siblings from Linneus, Aroostook County to Township 5 (Dyer Brook) before the 1870 U.S. Census. The 1880 U. S. Census has him still living on the family farm, working for his parents. In 1885, Edwin's elder brother Mark Delaney unexpectedly passed away and in 1886, Edwin married his brother's widow and took over the raising of his brother's two young daughters. Unfortunately, Edwin and Abbie would have no children of their own. In 1920, the Edwin and Abbie retired to Littleton, Aroostook County. It was in Littleton that Abbie passed away in May 1923.

On 03 Nov 1923, Edwin married a second time. His bride this time was Castine Camilla Tingley, daughter of George I. Tingley and Mary Elizabeth Adams. Born and raised in Littleton, Aroostook County, her family were neighbors to the Lilleys. On 05 Jun 1924, Edwin and Castine's daughter Mary was born, followed on 23 Jun 1925 by the birth of their second daughter, Frances.

By the time of the 1930 U. S. Census, Edwin, Castine and their daughters had moved back to Smyrna, Aroostook. They would remain in this area until Edwin's death on 09 Apr 1939.

Edwin was buried in Dyer Brook Cemetery, in the Lilley Family lot, next to his first wife Abbie and his step-daughter Alice and her husband Brut McLaughlin.
