Colonel Theodore Kepner Long, who had been in feeble health for several years, died at his home in New Bloomfield on Sunday, December 28, 1947. He was a retired lawyer, educator, legislator, and editor. Long, who was 91, founded the Carson Long Institute, a military school for boys, in 1914 as a memorial to his son who was drowned two years earlier.

The deceased was born in Pfoutz Valley, Perry County, and attended the erstwhile New Bloomfield Academy, now occupied by Carson Long Institute. He was graduated from the Yale University Law School in 1878 after obtaining an academic degree from the Millersville State Normal School.

Colonel Long formerly edited the Mandan, North Dakota, Daily Pioneer newspaper, and served as State's Attorney for the District West of the Missouri River in that state. The deceased practiced law in Chicago for 14 years, retiring in 1908. He served as Alderman in Chicago, and was a member of the Illinois State Legislature.

Funeral services were held at 2:45 o'clock this Wednesday afternoon at the home, with the Reverend Glenn H. Wampole, Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church Officiating. Burial is scheduled for Friday in Rose Hill Mausoleum, Chicago near Long's former home. He was a member of the Union League, and South Shore Country Club in that city.
