Elisabeth Ifft was born 18 Apr 1827 in Elm, Hesse-Kasse. Her parents were Christoph Rau and Anna Guenther. She was baptized on 22 Apr 1827. Anna Guenther, 1806-1886, was the daughter of Adam Guenther, 1774-1814, a miller in Elm. Elisabeth's biological father was Christopher Rau, born 1803-died ?, a linen weaver, also of Elm. Christopher and Anna were not married. On May 13, 1831 she married Johann Peter Ifft in Elm and he adopted Elisabeth. The very same year that they were married, they left for America.

Elisabeth at age 4, and her parents left Germany the first of July 1831 and arrived in the Port of Baltimore on Sept. 30, 1831. This is the same ship that her future husband, Johann Adam Knauff, and his family came to America on. Adam was 6 years old when he arrived. Adam & Elisabeth were married April 7, 1846 in Mercer Co., Pa.

Johann Adam Knauff was born June 3, 1824 in Vollmerz, Hesse-Kassel and died May 29, 1899 in Mercer Co. He was the son of Johann Nicholas Knauff and Barbara Catharina Weining. Johann Nicholas Knauff was born May 18, 1781 in Vollmerz, Hesse-Kassel and died Mar 26, 1855 in Mercer Co., Pa. He married Barbara Catharina Weining on June 25, 1807 in Ramholz, Hesse-Kassel. Barbara was born June 4, 1785 in Vollmerez, Hesse-Kassel and died 1834 in Butler Co., Pa. Johann Nicholas & Barbara had 6 children with Johann Adam being the youngest.

Adam & Elisabeth had ten children, three died in infancy:

Johann "Adam" Knauff, born 1850, in Beaver County, Pa., and died 1925 in Mercer County, Pa. He was married about 1871 to Susannah Uber, 1851-1932.

Johann "Michael" Knauff, born 1853 in Jackson Twp., Butler County, Pa., and died Dec 1, 1918 in Findley Twp., Mercer Co. He was married to Helena M. Reeher, 1853-1943.

George Knauff 1856-1860

Fredrick Herman Knauff, born 1858 in Beaver Co., Pa. and died in Albion, Erie Co., Pa., in 1940. Fred was first married to America C. Harman, 1866-1891. His second wife was Mary Louisa Simpson, 1860-1921. His third wife was Lydia May Cornell Maxham, 1863-1952.

Jacob Ferdinand Knauff, born 1861 in Beaver Co., Pa. and died 1927 in Findley Twp., Mercer, Co., Pa. He was married to Mary Magdalena (Lena) Blumenshine, 1865-1953.

Anna Gertrude Knauff, born 1864 in Beaver Co., Pa. and died 1952 in Erie, Pa. She was married to Martin Sylvester Bortz, 1884-1927.

Mary Matilda Knauff, born 1867 in Findley Twp., Mercer Co., Pa. and died 1838 in Greenville, Pa. She was married to Milton Bortz, 1866-1952.

Charles"Charley" Gottlieb Knauff, born 1874 in Findley Twp., Mercer, Co., and died 1918 in Mercer Co. Charley had Down's Syndrome. He died at the age of 44, never being married. He is buried with his parents, Adam & Elizabeth.
