Elijah Kring--was born Jan. 10. 1840, in Westerville, Ohio. The son of Conrad and Catherine (Seidner) Kring, of Westerville, OH… Elijah was a son of a farmer, and spent most of his boyhood working beside his father and bothers.
With the outbreak of the American Civil War, not letting his younger brother get one up on him, Elijah enlisted in the Union Army. (His younger brother Daniel was later killed at the battle of Missionary Ridge, in Tennessee in 1863.)
Elijah served with Company G, 44th Ohio Infantry, and later, with Company G, 8th Ohio Calvary.
Surviving the War, on Apr. 17, 1866, in Jay County, Indiana, Elijah married the former Charlotte Young, (1848-1934) The daughter of Christian and Catherine young, of Jay County, IN…
Like his father and grandfather before him, Elijah made his living as a farmer. Elijah owned a small farm just outside Kokomo, IN., and were members of the Evangelical Church.
The marriage of Elijah and Charlotte was blessed with five children, three sons and 2 daughters;
Catherine (1868-1940) Kokomo, IN.
Caroline (1871-1923) Marion, IN.
William (1877-1949) Kokomo, IN.
Frank (1882-1964)Kokomo, IN.
Edward (1888-1969) Peru, IN.
On a cold Dec. 3, 1926, at his home in Kokomo, Elijah passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his love ones.
Both Elijah and Charlotte are buried in
Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana.
