Born in PA, the 9th of 11 children of Jonathan Yoder and Magdalena Wagner. Moved with his parents to IL in 1851.
He attended Eureka College, taught school and farmed. He married Catherine Frey in 1861, and they had 10 children.
He moved to Dade County, MO in 1874 and to Clackamas County, OR, in 1898, where he farmed and taught school.
