Lillian Opal (Cheek) Schroeder, age 90, longtime Payette resident, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 in Clearwater,Florida. Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

Lillian was born March 25, 1919 in Payette, the youngest child of Mack M. and Ennice (Cockrum) Cheek. She was raised in the area, then ventured to Alaska for her first job in the early 1940's. There, she met her future husband, Eugene Warren Schroeder. They were married Jan. 18, 1945. Lillian and Gene lived in Minneapolis, Minn., for nearly 30 years while Gene was a pilot with Northwest Airlines and Lillian raised their two sons, Jack and Dave. Upon Gene's retirement in 1971, they returned to Payette and lived on a small acreage outside town until their passing in 2009. Throughout her life, Lillian loved to travel. A favorite destination was Hawaii, where she and Gene spent many winters. She also loved to spend time with her only grandson, Johnathan, and visited Florida often as she watched him grow up. She also loved camping in the mountains of Idaho with her family or visiting Idaho's interesting historic sights, which she loved to share with visiting family and friends.

Lillian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathie Schroeder of Clearwater, Fla., grandson, Johnathan Schroeder of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, who passed away earlier this year, her son, Jack, her parents, and her eight brothers and sisters.
