Born November 30, 1903, in Lawshee, O., he came to Nebraska as a third child with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James W. Nixon, who settled near Fairfield, where Mr. Nixon grew to manhood.
Mr. Nixon was a civilian employee at the Fairmont Army Air Base during World War II. He later operated a filling station in Geneva.
He was married to LaVern Cumberland of Geneva, and to this union were born two sons. The family moved to York ten years ago.
Mr. Nixon umpired baseball for 34 years. He played football while attending Doane College.
Surviving are his widow, LaVerne; two sons, James G. and Gerald E., both of the home; and one sister, Mrs. Albert (Zelma) Glass of Lebanon, Mo. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home in Geneva at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, Dr. Everett Jackman officiating. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau sang "In the Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Melvin Olson was accompanist. Pallbearers were Herbert Burnham, James Christensen, Harold Hoffschneider, James Myers, Darrell Ronne and Virgil Sullivan, all of York. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.
