Jobe Allen Maynor was the son of Esybous Maynor and Jensy Jane Buckner. He was born while the family was in Kentucky, working in the coal mines, and named for a neighbor, Jobe Allen.

Some of Jobe's siblings were Nancy J., William Britt, Diana (Hyde), Garrett, Burrow, John, Julia and Elizabeth.

On the 30th of September 1866, Jobe married Delilah Evaline Dennis, daughter of William and Sophia Moore Dennis of McMinn County. Their children were Elizabeth 'Lizzie' who married Jack Bates; William Allen married Maggie Womac; Malissa Juletta 'Letty' married Chirs Kirkland; Lillie Ann married Henry Norwood; James Monroe married Mattie Goforth; and two little boys, Garret 'Sibbie' and Bennie, who died as small children. Sibbie was 5, and Bennie was only about a year old.
