Orpha Viola Alertson, 81, of Northwood, died Thursday (June 22, 2006) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave S. in Northwood. Interment will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to Orpha Viola Alertson Memorial Fund.

Orpha was born on Aug. 29, 1924, in rural Northwood, Iowa Deer Creek Township, the daughter of Osmon Tobias (Toby) and Lillie (Christianson) Alertson. She was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church. She attended No. 4 Worth County country school. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Northwood.

Orpha cleaned at Interstate Power for more than 30 years and many other businesses and family residents in Northwood.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, crafting and putting puzzles together.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, Doyle Eilertson (Barb) of Northwood, Ilene Jaycox (Roger) of Hackensack, Minn., Janet Bergo of Lake Mills, Marlys Wood (Byron) of Omaha, Neb., Rita Rosenberg (Jim) of Kensett, David Eilertson (Sue) of Northwood, Ardis Sorenson (Carrol) of Thornton, Colo., Duane Hanson (Sharon) Grand Fork, N.D., Merle Hanson (Jeanette) of Northwood, Sharyl Engelhardt (Jon) of Adel, Ivanell Howard (Earle) of Granby, Colo., Audrey McIntosh (Richard) of Jefferson City, Mo., Shirley Tweed (Gerald) of Renton, Wash., Arlo Spilde of Northwood, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Toby and Lillie Alertson; her brothers, Leslie Eilertson and Edwin Alertson; her sisters, Alice Hanson Olson and Helen Spilde; and a nephew, Mark Spilde.
