Gerald L. Runyon, 78, of Clay City died August 9, 2009 at Union Hospital.

He was born to Harvey and Goldie (See) Runyon on February 18, 1931 in Alamo, Indiana.

He was married to Neil Ramage on February 22, 1953. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany 1953-1955 and the U.S. Army Reserve 1955-1962. He graduated from Alamo High School in 1949 and Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1953 and earned a Masters in 1958. After the service he began teaching Vocational Agriculture and taught for over 35 years; the last 30 at Clay City High School.

He was the FFA advisor at Clay City and continued to volunteer with state FFA foundation after retirement. He was a longtime member of Clay City First United Methodist Church, member of the American Legion, Lions Club, director for Habitat for Humanity of Clay County, and director of Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District for 12 years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Orville, Donald, George and Louis and a sister, Thelma Howard.

Surviving are his wife Neil Runyon; three children Greg (Karla) Runyon, Andy (Terry) Runyon and Michelle (Curtis) Crafton; eight Grandchildren, Justin Runyon, Heather (Jason) Campbell, Travis Runyon, Andrew Runyon, Justin (Kim) Cline, Megan (Brandon) Wejroch, Jason Crafton, and Leah Crafton; two Great Grandchildren Gabriel Koa Campbell and Madelyn Wejroch; many nieces and nephews.


Funeral Information
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Thursday August 13, 2009 at 11:00am with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Habitat for Humanity of Clay County P.O. Box 81 Brazil, IN 47834.
