OBITUARY: Madison - Leslie E. "Les" Thomas, age 87, died on Saturday, December 6, 1997 at Manor Care Nursing Home. He was born on May 18, 1910 in West Lima, Wisconsin. On January 10, 1943 he married Edna Fietz. Les was employed for many years in the maintenance department at Oakwood Lutheran Homes. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include his beloved wife, Edna Fietz Thomas of Madison; a daughter, Marilyn (Joseph) Bock of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three sons, V. Charles (Sarah) Medcraft of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Robert (Delphine) Medcraft of Hastings, Minnesota, and Jerald (Linda Thomas of Ottowa, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, May Baer of Baraboo, Frantie (Ray) Jessie of North Freedom, and Elsie Barker of Portage; and a sister-in-law, Adeline Thomas of Madison. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 1997 at the Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, December 9, 1997.

LESLIE THOMAS SHOT
Leslie Thomas, the 18 year old son of Elsworth Thomas, who lives on the Van Dyke farm in the town of Springville, was seriously injured Tuesday when a load of shot carried away a part of his left hand. The accident happened when he was putting a shotgun into the wagon box, the gun being exploded accidentally. He was brought to this city and given surgical attention and from here taken to the hospital at Portage, where it was found necessary to amputate the two first fingers of the left hand. The shot had torn thru the hand and made a serious wound.

Les was named by Aunt Julia Shepard.
