Funeral services were held last Thursday at Center Point for John F. Davenport, 80, pioneer rancher and trail driver, who died the previous day at his home on Mason Creek following an extended illness. The last rites were conducted by Rev. Paul S. Van Dyke, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Kerrville. Burial was in the Center Point Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Davenport was born in Cibolo Creek, in Bexar County, September 10, 1856. For the past 53 years he had lived on Mason Creek, near the Kerrville and Bandera county line and was considerd one of the most prominent ranchmen and substantial citizens in this section. On January 8, 1879, he was married to Miss Maggie Hudspeth, also a member of a pioneer family, who survives.

In addition to his widow, the survivors include the following: Mrs. Nancy Davenport, his aged mother, who is 94 and resides at Bracken; two daughters, Mrs. B. A. Walker, Wesloco and Miss Josephine Davenport, Center Point; three sons, Leonidas Davenport, Austin; Carle Davenport, Center Point and Robert Davenport, Comfort; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Kincaid, Bracken, Mrs. S. G. Bechtel, San Antonio, and Mrs J. A. Miller, Bandera.

A brother, James E. Davenport, died at Center Point one month ago.
