Ewing Shute was the son of Martha Hannah "Mattie" Williamson and Capt. William Watkins Shute.
Mr. Shute was assistant paymaster for the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company in Nashville. He was one of the best known young men of Birmingham, Alabama. He was prominent in business and athletic circles, and at one time his interest in the Birmingham Athletic Club resulted in his being elected vice-president of that institution.
