He was born August 17, 1920 at Warm River to David Taylor and Zina Iona Gunter Howell. He grew up and attended school in Warm River. In 1941 he graduated from North Fremont High School and worked on the family farm.
During World War II he helped build liberty ships at the shipyard in Vancouver, Washington.
On July 25, 1945 he married Elsie Atchley George in Dillon, Montana. They built a home overlooking the Warm River area where they have lived for the past 47 years. He farmed with his brothers as Howell Brothers until 1972, and then continued to farm with his son, Tom. He enjoyed wood and metal working and collecting Indian artifacts and antiques.
He leaves his wife Elsie of Warm River; children Thomas Howell of Greentimber, Julia "Judy" Jesperson and Bill George, both of Idaho Falls, a sister June McCord of Ashton, brothers, Forrest "Pop" Howell of Ashton and Lewis "Bud" Howell of Rexburg, 8 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a grandson and four brothers.
